Alanson and Pellston, Michigan
View Virtual Tour
The northern part of Emmet County is more rural, but if you thought moving north would be dull, just wait! Our newly remodeled airport is home to Northwest Airlines' jet service which will take you anywhere you want to go, usually for less! If you are a pilot yourself, try the Harbor Springs airport in the heart of Little Traverse Bay.
Alanson is located north of Petoskey on US 31 and is a community of caring people who have pride in their small town.
Settled in 1885, Alanson has grown into a community known for its beautiful city gardens. It also boasts one of the best children's play areas.
Just north of Alanson is Pellston, which was founded in 1882 and now has a population of 583. Home to the Pellston Regional Airport, this town has attracted a respectable share of industrial development.
The area is lucky to have a new state-of-the-art airport, complete with jet service provided by Northwest Airlines.
The next stop is Good Hart, with its historic General Store, and Cross Village with its landmark Legs Inn. Continuing north along the shoreline of northern Emmet County is the "Tunnel of Trees" where magnificent mature trees tunnel the roadway. It is a beautiful drive anytime of the year, but it is particularly breathtaking in the fall when the leaves are changing color.
Beaches abound, and the "Tunnel of Trees" will lead you to one of the most pristine beaches found along the Sturgeon Bay area of northwestern Emmet county. Surrounded by forest and state land, this region is especially attractive for those seeking a more secluded lifestyle.
On the northern edge of the county, one can finally glimpse a view of the majestic Mackinac Bridge, rising 552 feet above the Straits of Mackinac. It holds the record as the longest suspension bridge in the world!
As you view the bridge, look carefully and you are likely to see one of the numerous freighters that travel though the Great Lakes. |
